The CONVERTER System.
The 2012 Innovation from Biotop: An upgrading shaft for natural pools.
The Converter System is especially suited for natural pools that operate without technical equipment or for those with unsatisfactory water quality or problems with excessive algae growth. Before a pool is upgraded our planners assess the situation to see if any equipment exists that can still be used.
The Converter System takes advantage of tried-and-true components of the Living Pool system: The bio filter and the PhosTec Ultra-Filter.
Both components are housed together with a pump in a single shaft. The shaft, measuring 2.0 x 1.2 x 0.8 meters, is installed in the ground next to the existing pool and connected to the pool with both an inflow and an outflow pipe. The pump for this bio circulation requires only a very small amount of electricity (approximately 40 W).
The CONVERTER shaft looks like this.

This is how the Converter System works:
First the water goes through a biological filter where it is mechanically and biologically cleaned. In this process, impurities are retained and organic impurities are transformed by bacteria, whereby the phosphorous compounds are mineralized into soluble orthophosphate. Subsequently the water is fed through a special anion absorption filter, where the orthophosphate is bound. Over the course of time the filter material becomes saturated with phosphate and has to be changed every few years.
The CONVERTER System has the following advantages:
- Algae growth is prevented: through the PhosTec Ultra filter phosphorous is removed from the water, depriving the algae of its sustenance and "starving" it.
- The installation of the shaft requires very little space close to the pool.
- Maintenance (changing the filter material) is easy to do.
- Upgrading your pool is easy, quick and economical.
